Veteran's Day

We celebrated Veterans' Day last week by singing songs, listening to speeches, and exploring an army hummer. What a blessing to acknowledge what others have endured so we can have freedom in this country.

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. - Galatians 5:1

Our Amazing Earth

We have spent some time studying our wonderful earth that God has made so creatively and amazingly. We've studied landforms and how the earth changes over time. We made landforms out of clay and paper. I am always amazed by the creativity of my class!

We tested how volcanoes change the surface of the earth...

...and we made landslides in the sandbox.

We also made earthquakes in a box. Who knew learning could be fun?

Student Thoughts

Here's what one of my students wrote about school recently...

Hi! My class has had so much fun lately! So far we've done harvest day, Cradle of Forestry, and the library. We had someone come teach us about South Africa.

Harvest Day

I love this time of year! Fall brings with it beautiful colors and cool weather, and gives us a chance to celebrate the changing seasons. We did just that on Friday when we had our annual Harvest Day. After working hard in the morning and taking 3 (count them: 3!) tests, we started the festivities by doing marble leaf art.

 Rolling the paint-covered marbles

Finished products!

Our tree needed some touches of fall.

Then it was time to head outside and play some games. Here they are rolling potatoes with sticks around the cones.

 Then they painted pumpkins.

We made caramel apples and ate them!

After lunch, we took a tractor ride around the school. It was a beautiful day!

 Sack races

We had a special treat when the grandma of one of my students brought in a cake and snacks to end the day.

What a fun day!
