A Walk in the Park

A couple of months ago, I borrowed a satchel of educational activities from the Carl Sandburg house. One of the activities involved each student sending a picture of Carl Sandburg and a travel journal to various National Parks and Monuments around the United States with the intention of receiving letters and information back about each park. I figured it was worth a shot so we researched different parks and sent off our journals.

I had all but forgotten about the activity until I received a pile full of manila envelopes stuffed with letters, pictures, and information from many of the National Parks we had written to. I was way more excited than I should have been; blame it on being a teacher. Prepare for a picture overload of some of things we received.

There were printed out pictures of dinosaurs...

letters telling us about the parks...

...pamphlets and brochures, and even a book about Yellowstone.

..

The kids enjoyed exploring the items and sharing what they learned.

I love these opportunities when learning comes alive in new ways! The United States is full of amazing and beautiful places.
