Let There be Light!

We had a special guest earlier this month who came from the Mountain Heritage Center to tell us about how light has changed through the centuries. It fit perfectly into our study on NC history and lead us into our study on light.

We first learned about early fire-making strategies.
We got to try a flint and steel.

We also saw a variety of lanterns powered by candle, oil, and electricity.

The best part was the project at the end when we got to make candles by rolling up beeswax sheets around wicks.

Later in science, we experimented with light and shadow...
...saw the spectrum of colors in light by using prisms in the sun...

...and saw how light bends and changes in water.
